Description: The Albino Senegal Polypterus was selectively bred from the wild Senegal Polypterus to achieve its pinkish-white coloration with striking red eyes. The wild Senegal Polypterus is one of the most widespread species of Polypterus in Africa. More specifically, inhabiting slow-moving waters in Western Africa, including Senegal, Nigeria, and Ghana. The aquarium setup should include sand or a fine-grained substrate to avoid injuring the underbelly of this fish. Providing hiding spots in the form of driftwood or inert rocks will help make the Albino Senegal Polypterus feel more secure in the tank. This fish should not be housed with any fish that can fit in its mouth or fish that become overtly aggressive. Ideal tank mates include: larger Characins, Knifefish, Datnoids, Angelfish, Synodontis Catfish, and other Polypterus sp. This fish is more nocturnal, and they rely heavily on their sense of smell due to their poor eyesight.
