Description:
Buffalo head is very territorial cichlid originating from Democratic Republic of Congo. Although from Africa this species comes from low to neutral pH rivers and not the high pH conditions of the well known African Rift Lakes. Therefore tanks with pH of 7 are ideal environments. This cichlid is named for the prominent nuchal hump the males develop when they mature. It should be kept with other semi-aggressive fish such as larger tetras, characins, barbs, plecos, and synodontis catfish.
