Fairly aggressive for a cichlid of its size and can face off against cichlids larger than it. Convict Cichlid is very common fish in the hobby due to its relatively low maintenance and high capacity to breed. However, these fish are specially aggressive while breeding and can be very territorial, tanks with lots of space and larger cichlids are recommended for a long term care.
