Description: These "Four-Eyed" fish are active swimmers that do best in groups of six or more. This fish does not actually have four eyes, but refers to this fish having a thin layer of tissue in its two eyes. This split in the eye allows the fish to simultaneously have both an aerial and aquatic view. It is best to provide an aquarium with a larger footprint, due to this fish's need for open swimming room. These fish originate from brackish areas in South America. Anableps anableps can handle varying salt levels as they are naturally found in waters with fluctuating salinities; however, they thrive best in brackish conditions. These fish prefer to feed from the surface of the water, and they are primarily insectivores.
